Delegation of the KKE in the earthquake-affected regions of Turkey

In the past few days, a delegation of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) visited the earthquake-affected regions of Turkey. The delegation consisted of Giorgos Marinos, Member of the PB of the CC of the KKE and MP for Evia, Eliseos Vagenas, member of the CC of the KKE and head of the International Relations Section of the CC of the KKE, Aris Evangelidis, member of the International Relations Section of the CC of the KKE, and Birgül Maksum, KKE candidate for MP in Xanthi.

The delegation of the KKE met with a delegation of the Communist Party of Turkey, led by the General Secretary of the CC of the CP of Turkey, Kemal Okuyan, and participated in the first mass political rally after the earthquakes in Ankara. (Click here to read the greeting of G. Marinos, member of the PB of the CC of the KKE at the event).

Furthermore, the delegation of the KKE visited the “District Houses” and “Crisis Desks” in the earthquake-affected areas of Adana, İskenderun and Antakya, which are important links in the chain of solidarity with the earthquake victims, as they are the places where essentials are gathered for the earthquake victims and the great effort to support the people of the earthquake-affected areas is coordinated.

The delegation of the KKE conveyed to the Turkish comrades the full solidarity and the  support of the KKE. It pointed out the astounding response of the Greek people to the ongoing campaign in support of the Turkish people, with the collection of essentials in every neighbourhood, as well as the response of the class-oriented labour movement, which is collecting large quantities of materials that have already started to arrive in Turkey despite the great difficulties. The KKE and the All Workers’ Militant Front (PAME) are at the forefront of collecting aid, and have also organized blood donations for the injured.

It also highlighted the KKE’s opposition to the US and European imperialists’ blockade on Syria, which hinders the support and help to the Syrian people who are also suffering.

The delegation had the opportunity to see first-hand the extent of the destruction and the deficiencies of the bourgeois state towards the needs of the earthquake-stricken people, as well as to be informed about the very important effort made by the CP of Turkey to support the suffering Turkish people, the organization and coordination of the enormous popular solidarity, and the obstacles that the bourgeois state is trying to set up, such as the recent unacceptable arrests of communists who were distributing aid because they “made the state look impotent”.
